Juan Carlos Martínez, New Regional Coordinator for Latin America at the OWHC

Morelia, Michoacán, September 3, 2025. The Regional Secretariat for Latin America is pleased to announce the appointment of Juan Carlos Martínez Alcázar as the new Regional Coordinator. In this role, he will work to promote and protect the cultural heritage of cities in Latin America.

Juan Carlos Martínez joins the OWHC with extensive experience in cultural management and relevant skills in tourism development and social leadership. He has served as Coordinator of the Historic Center of the City of Morelia, the office responsible for managing the municipality’s tangible cultural heritage; Director of Tourism Business Development in Michoacán, with the task of enhancing sociocultural conditions in various towns in the state; and Founding President of the National Council of Historic Centers, where he oversaw projects to rescue and preserve Mexico’s historic centers. He has also been involved in philanthropic work with Lions Club International.

His main objective is to strengthen cooperation with the General Secretariat headed by Mikhaël De Thyse, and the relationship with the heritage cities that are members of the Regional Secretariat for Latin America (Arequipa, Camagüey, Cartagena, Campeche, Mexico City, Colonia de Sacramento, Cuenca, Cusco, Willemstad, Guanajuato, Havana, Morelia, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, Quito, San Miguel de Allende, San Pablo Villa de Mitla, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, and Xochimilco) through cooperation and the exchange of experiences to promote and safeguard Latin American heritage.
