NUP Flash in Mexican Cities
At the end of July 2025, the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC) held NUP Flash workshops in Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, and Querétaro, with the aim of integrating these cities into the New Urban Project (NUP) and strengthening cooperation with them. The inclusion of these cities expands territorial representation and enriches the project by bringing in local experiences and perspectives that had not previously had the opportunity to participate directly.
In each city, the workshops brought together the various municipal departments linked to the conservation of historic centers—planning, urban development, public works, public services, among others—in a collaborative working space. There, joint work highlighted why habitability is the central axis of the NUP strategy, while challenges were identified, prioritized, and action pathways formulated to strengthen local agendas, confirming their relevance in a practical and collaborative way.
These meetings mark the beginning of more concrete collaborations with the participating cities and reaffirm that heritage is key to building fairer, more resilient, and sustainable cities.
