Description
Urban market-gardening has been carried out in Bamberg since the Middle Ages. The inscription of the “Town of Bamberg” acknowledged the Market Gardeners’ District as a key part of the World Heritage site. In order to strengthen Bamberg’s food supply and to contribute to the urban air quality, the City of Bamberg has been actively promoting urban gardening since 2009. Moreover, in 2016 'urban market-gardening in Bamberg' was included in the German Register of intangible cultural heritage.
