We are pleased to announce the publication of the report from the Third Regional Meeting and CityLab, “Latin America towards the New Urban Project”, which took place in Cuenca, (Ecuador) on November 26, 27, and 28, 2025. The meeting brought together representatives from Colonia del Sacramento, Cuenca, Guanajuato, Havana, Mexico City, Morelia, Puebla, and Querétaro for a collective discussion focused on housing in historic centers, addressing three specific problematics:
- Unauthorized and non-compliant interventions
- Buildings classified, unoccupied and/or abandoned
- Fragmented governance and lack of land tenure security
The report presents strategic and operational proposals based on the Latin American experience and includes the Cuenca Charter, adopted during the Regional Assembly.
These outcomes feed into the development of the New Urban Project (NUP), which is scheduled to be adopted at the 18th World Congress of the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC), to be held in Marrakech.
