OWHC Active in the Caribbean

Havana, Cuba

On August 19–20, Havana hosted the OCPM CityLab “Rethinking Habitability in World Heritage Cities of the Caribbean.” This event, the first of its kind in the region, brought together representatives from Caribbean World Heritage cities (Havana, Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Camagüey, Willemstad, and Santo Domingo) in a unique collaborative effort that contributed significantly to the development of the New Urban Project (NUP). The particular contexts of these Caribbean cities offered new perspectives, enriching the way key challenges in housing, infrastructure, and services are approached, and transforming them into concrete ideas and actions to improve quality of life in historic city centers.

The workshop also highlighted OCPM as a space for support and international collaboration, showing how the New Urban Project is consolidating as an integrated tool for the sustainable regeneration of historic centers. The initiative fosters innovative solutions, strengthens cooperation among cities committed to habitability, resilience, and heritage preservation, and paves the way for continued work with Caribbean cities.
