In October 2012 the city of Warsaw completed the project "Renovation and Adaptation of the Old Town Basements of Warsaw" within the area that is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The project is considered as an excellent example of bringing back the magnificence of historical space, which for years had not been used due to its extremely poor technical state.
Archeological and conservation works conducted in the last 4 years prove the wealth of historical layering and provide an awareness of how little one knows about the history of the city. The project was a remarkable effort in terms of both scale and construction complexity. Completion of this project was possible thanks to the collaboration with the Norwegian city of Bergen and the co–financing by the EEA and Norway Funds. The Heritage Protection Department was the initiator and manager of the project. Find more information: www.piwnice.um.warszawa.pl/en/content
