“Heritage and Community Involvement” - this was the topic of our 2016 Regional Conference for OWHC Northwest Europe and North America. From September 27 to 29, more than 50 participants from 20 World Heritage Cities came together in the Hanseatic town of Stralsund in Northern Germany in order to discuss and gain new insights.
With the new concept of one whole "Scientific Day" granted for a more profound work on the theme of the next OWHC World Congress, the members were able to get involved and share knowledge, but also to learn from professionals and experience what could be improved in the field of "getting the community involved into our World Heritage".
More practical examples from several participants were demonstrated on the second conference day during our "Kaleidoscope" session, when the stage is open for "good practice" and a living proof of the high level of professional work already done in our cities.
The whole report of our 2016 conference can be downloaded here. If you would like to focus on the topic, there is a documentation on the contents of the Scientific Day to be found here. It is also the base for a planned extended Guidebook on "Community Involvement" which will be edited by our Regional Secretariat with support of examples from Eurocities network as well as the COMUS partner towns/Council of Europe project.
